A new ecosystem of support

Predictably frantic demand will spur the growth of a support structure for organ replacement.  Initially, manufacturing technology, testing, and a new type of tissue matching will develop as transplant centers replace hospitals.  Custom designed organs and immunomodulators will naturally be the next step.  Can we imagine a universe where humans can breathe underwater or on Mars with a lung designed for that environment?
